Video: Bloody Chicago, 23 People Shot, 3 Fatally on Friday

Two girls, 13 and 7, were among 23 people who were wounded, three fatally, during a 16-hour period from Friday afternoon to early Saturday.

In the Englewood neighborhood about 11:50 p.m. Friday, a woman held up a phone as she inched toward crime scene tape of a triple shooting in the 5900 block of South Union Avenue. She wanted officers to look at a photo on her phone to confirm if her relative was one of the victims.

“I gotta go get him,” the woman repeated as she collapsed on the sidewalk. A woman tried to comfort her.

Officers at the scene told the woman they couldn’t tell her and didn’t know if her relative had been hurt.

A 25-year-old man was standing outside of a home with a 23-year-old man and a 29-year-old man when three men approached and opened fire, police said. The 25-year-old man was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 23-year-old man was shot in the chest, and he was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital. A 29-year-old man was shot in the right leg, and his condition was stabilized at St. Bernard Hospital.

The woman later returned with other relatives and spoke to a sergeant at the scene. They lingered around the edge of the crime scene as they waited for news.

“Right now, it’s hard to tell with the way the body is positioned,” the officer told the family.

When the officer told the family that the person was wearing white shorts, the woman walked away crying.

In the Park Manor neighborhood, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot about 3:15 p.m. in the 7000 block of South State Street, according to police.

Witnesses said a dark-sedan pulled up and someone inside opened fire, striking the teen in the head.

He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m. He was identified as Sherrod Rhyme, of the 9100 block of South Harper Avenue in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Earlier, a man was killed and another was seriously wounded in a shooting in the East Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.
