(Fox) Chicago police announced Monday morning that a suspect is in custody in the shooting death of a 9-year-old boy who was playing on the Near North Side.
CPD Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said they are working with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office to file charges within the next two days. He credited neighbors with helping officers locate the suspect quickly.
Police say Janari Ricks, 9, was in the parking lot Friday evening in the 900 block of North Cambridge close to his home when someone on foot opened fire. Police say the boy was not the intended target.
