Pace Driver Shot, Killed in Attempted Robbery in Avalon Park

(WLS) A 50 year old man was shot and killed early Tuesday morning inside a Pace para-transit van in an attempted armed robbery on Chicago’s South Side, police said.

The victim was talking to the woman driving the van in a gas station parking lot near East 83rd Street and South Stony Island Avenue just after 3:15 a.m. That’s when he was pushed inside by a man who tried to take his cell phone and shot, police said.

He suffered gunshot wounds to the right arm, chest and back, police said. He was transported in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released. Police said he was not affiliated with Pace.

Area South detectives are investigating. No one is in custody.
