A 22-year-old man is accused of firing a gun at Chicago police officers in University Village early Thursday, police said.
Marco DiPaolo, 22, of the 1000 block of West Taylor Street, is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of firearm police said.
Additionally, DiPaolo was charged with misdemeanor aggravated assault and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card, police said.
The incident happened just before 2 a.m. Thursday, when someone called police to report a person with a gun. Officers from the Near West police district were answering the call when someone fired shots at them in the 800 block of South Miller Street, according to police.
No injuries were reported, but nearby property was damaged.
DiPaolo resisted arrest as he taken into custody at 2:05 a.m., police said.
On the scene shortly after the incident, a person who was walked to the back seat of a squad car on Miller, yelled, “I want to go home.”
A gun and a live round were recovered from the scene, a source said. Continue Reading
