CHICAGO – A federal judge is expected to rule on whether or not to release videos that show a Chicago Police Department shooting from 2013.
Activists say Mayor Rahm Emanuel can make good on his promise of more transparency by ordering the release of the videos ahead of the judge’s ruling.
Video apparently shows police shooting 17-year-old Cedrick Chatman back in 2013 at 75th and Jeffrey in the South Shore neighborhood.
The videos, according to Chatman family attorney, show the teen running away from police. The Chicago Police Department has said that Chatman was driving a stolen car.
The officer said he feared for his life and that he thought Chatman was armed. The Police Review Board found the shooting justified but not before one of its members disagreed and says he was fired for it. Continue Reading
