Chicago Cop Shot in Knee on South Side, Shooter Captured

(WGN) A Chicago police officer was shot in the knee Monday night on the South Side after shots were fired at officers.

It happened at around 6:30 p.m. in the area of 50th and King Drive after police attempted to stop a suspect. The suspect fired shots at officers and fled, CPD said.

The officer was shot in the knee taken to the University of Chicago with a non life-threatening injury.

At around 9 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody.

CPD set up a perimeter near the shooting and said they did not fire shots.

The suspect is known in the Second District as a wanted criminal for aggravated assault with a handgun.

CTA buses were rerouted in the area due to police activity.
