Two men were killed and 15 others were wounded in shootings since early Saturday afternoon in Chicago.
On Saturday October 8th at 10:00 pm, a 19-year-old woman was grazed in the head by a bullet. The woman was in a vehicle that was traveling in the 5200 block of South Albany Avenue in the Gage Park neighborhood, when someone inside a white SUV began firing at the vehicle she was a in.
One of the bullets burst through the back window of the SUV and struck the girl in the head. the vehicle then escaped the scene at 52nd and Albany and came to a stop at 47th and California. The young ladies condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai Hospital.
At around the same time that this shooting happened Two teen boys were shot in the Fernwood neighborhood, an unknown person in a black sedan shot a 17-year-old boy in the back and a 15-year-old boy in the left thigh. The older teen was listed in serious condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.
The younger teen’s condition was stabilized at Comer Children’s Hospital. Two hours later another teen was shot, the 17-year-old boy was shot in the right thigh while he was walking in the 2600 block of North Hoyne Avenue in the Lathrop Homes neighborhood on Chicago’s North Side, A man approached the teen and began shooting at him.
The teen was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized. In all of the cases the shooter or shooters are still at large. From Friday afternoon to early Monday, at least 46 people were shot in the city as the summer’s violence continued into October. As of Monday, at least 3,200 people have been shot in Chicago this year, 930 more than this time a year ago.
There have been at least 568 homicides this year, 172 more than this time last year, according to data kept by the Tribune.
As has been the case all summer, the overwhelming majority of attacks this past weekend occurred on the South and West sides. Only one person was shot north of Division Street, and that was the weekend’s first shooting Friday afternoon: A 23-year-old man wounded in the 5300 block of West Diversey Avenue.
Early Saturday, at least four people were shot when someone opened fire at a party in Englewood, police said. Three men were taken to hospitals after the house party in the 6800 block of South Emerald Avenue.
Later, a fourth man, 32, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital by friends with a gunshot wound to the arm. He initially told investigators he had been shot elsewhere in the city but later admitted he had been shot at the Emerald Avenue party, a law enforcement source said.
Sometime later, a 26-year-old man got to St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound and said he had been shot in the 7100 block of South Vincennes Avenue. But police suspect he may also have been shot on Emerald Avenue, according to preliminary information from the law enforcement source.
Witnesses at the party were being uncooperative with investigators, sources said.
A 17-year-old girl was killed in Back of the Yards early Saturday, less than an hour after two men were wounded in a separate shooting in the same neighborhood. The girl was in a white Toyota in the 4500 block of South Wood Street when someone began shooting at the vehicle from the sidewalk. She was hit in the back of the head and pronounced dead at Holy Cross Hospital.
Early Sunday, a 20-year-old man was shot dead outside the California Pink Line CTA station, police said. Officers responding to a call of a fight by the station, in the 2000 block of South California Avenue, found two gunshot victims: the 20-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 24-year-old man who had been shot in the buttocks. The surviving victim’s condition was stabilized.

The two, men’s ages are 35 and 57, they were both in an SUV driving to drop one of the men off at home. Nine people were killed and 45 others were wounded in shootings in Chicago over the weekend, according to police.
Among those who were killed was Peter Fabbri, 54, who was shot in the head at 7:35 p.m. Saturday as he was walking with two women near Millennium Park, police said.
Fabbri was shot at the northeast corner of Michigan Avenue and Monroe Drive when an argument turned violent, police said. The shooter fled on a bicycle but was taken into custody. Fabbri died Sunday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The deadliest stretch of the weekend occurred between Friday afternoon and early Saturday. A 19-year-old man was among the six people killed during this period.

Daniel Lindsey, 19, was riding his bike Friday when he heard 15 shots and pedaled toward Moran Park, where the two men were wounded. Lindsey saw one man on the ground at the park, and the other was near Sharif’s Food & Liquor #2, a corner store.
Lindsey said one of the victims told him to move out of the neighborhood and to avoid trouble.

About 8:10 p.m., a 19-year-old man was killed and a 21-year-old man was wounded in Englewood. They were in the 5600 block of South Racine Avenue when they were shot, police said.
The older man was shot in the back and taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital. The 19-year-old was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the same hospital.
Daniel Lindsey, 19, of Englewood, was on his bike a few blocks away when he heard about 15 shots. He quickly pedaled toward Moran Park, 5727 S. Racine Ave., and saw two men on the ground: one at the park and one on the road near Sharif’s Food & Liquor #2, a corner store.
Lindsey said he had a “nice little conversation” with one of the victims who was shot in the park, who told Lindsey to move out of the neighborhood and to avoid trouble.
“I’m hurt and sad,” Lindsey said. “I have a 1-year-old, and I’m so scared I won’t get to see him grow up.”
Bystanders said some people walked up toward the park and shot toward a crowd of people there. As people scattered, the shooter opened fire toward the corner store, hitting the second victim.
Tony Smith, 44, who lives a few houses down opposite the park, said the summer has been quiet. He said one of the victims was always willing to run to the corner store for people around the neighborhood.
About 2:35 a.m. Saturday, a 37-year-old man was found shot dead in the Near West Side neighborhood. Police responding to the 2600 block of West Wilcox Street found him with a gunshot wound to the head on a sidewalk between train tracks and a row of brick townhouses. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Just before 2:10 a.m., a man was killed and a woman was wounded in Gage Park. They were in the 2200 block of West 50th Place when someone with a rifle got out of a nearby vehicle and opened fire. The man, believed to be in his 20s or 30s, was shot in the head and pronounced dead. The woman was shot in the foot and went to Mount Sinai Hospital.
About 5:35 p.m. Friday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, a 21-year-old man suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest in the 2600 block of West Haddon Avenue, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ten minutes earlier, a 56-year-old man was killed in Gresham. Someone chased him into the hallway of an apartment in the 1000 block of West 77th Street, where he was shot in the leg and upper chest, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead. He was identified as Carl Jackson of the same block where he was shot, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
About 1:45 p.m., a man was killed and another was wounded in the 4200 block of South Princeton Avenue in the Fuller Park neighborhood. The two men were standing outside when a vehicle drove past and someone inside fired shots, hitting both men, police said. A 25-year-old was shot in the buttocks and taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, where he later died. The medical examiner’s office identified him as Jeremiah Curtis of the 8800 block of South Houston Avenue.
