I would like to first start out this letter with my sincere condolences to the families of Takiya Holmes, 11, Lavontay White, 2, Kanari Gentry-Bowers, 12, and all the others that have perished on the Bloody streets of Chicago. The time has come to take the gloves off and fight for what is right no…
Parties of all kinds in Chicago have ended Tragically some with people being shot and some just being abruptly shut down by CPD. This block of party related shootings is only a fraction of the party shootings covered over 2016 in the Neighborhoods across Chicago. What seems to be the case is mass gatherings in these neighbors, unfortunately only creates targets for the gang shooters.
WARNING GRAHPIC CONTENT, This Video was 16 months in the making covering shootings up and down the GAUNLET. Garfield Boulevard runs through 3 major High Crime neighborhoods on Chicago’s Southside. This stretch of road is the most violent by far, because this 6, lane boulevard runs through some very active gang areas. The video says it all no writing or description of what takes place in these neighborhoods shows the true horror of it all.
That is the 11th district Chicago police station, it is home to patrol beat 1133, beat 1133 in 2016 was designated the most dangerous and violent beat of the 303 beats that patrol the streets Chicago. Beat 1133 patrols the Homan Square neighborhood.
The first shooting I covered in the Homan square neighborhood happened on Monday March 14th 2016 in the 3700 block of west Polk street. In this incident three Chicago Police Officers were shot during a drug investigation. The three officers were shot by a reputed member of the Vice Lords street gang. Gang member Lamar Harris was shot and killed by police. The shooter had been arrested more than 40 times since 2000 for drugs and violence against the police. All three officers, recovered from their wounds.
Homan square is a very small area that has seen a massive increase in Gun violence over 2016. The Homan Square neighborhood had 16 murders last year that was more than it saw in the previous five years combined. Patrol beat 1133 had not seen more than eight murders in a year. There were also 45 nonfatal shootings that were far and away the most in a single year since 2000, and more than twice as many as in 2015. What is causing this dramatic rise in gun violence in the Homan Square neighborhood and across the city?
The second shooting Maggio news covered in the Homan Square neighborhood happened on September 5th 2016 on the Labor Day holiday. A man and a woman were shot sitting in a parked blue Chevy Camaro in the 3300 block of West Flournoy. The shooter suddenly came out of the shadows and started pumping off shots at the couple, the woman was struck twice and the man once. Chaotic shooting scenes like this would echo throughout Homan square all year long,
In early 2015 Chicago was threatened with a law suit by the ACLU over stop and frisk. The city reached an agreement with the ACLU to avoid a long fight in the courts a compromise was reached in late 2015, did this compromise by Chicago’s leadership contribute to the massive rise in shootings across the city and is this decision also responsible for the 80% decrease in police stops over 2016.
The last shooting Maggio news covered in the Homan Square neighborhood was a police involved shooting that took place over the thanks giving weekend.
A man was shot and killed by Chicago Police officers after they saw him shoot two other people, killing one and wounding another. Harrison District officers heard gunfire while on patrol, they saw a man standing over another person and firing a gun near the intersection of Harrison and Central Park Avenue.
That’s when officers got out of their squad car and fatally shot him. a weapon was recovered at the scene. It is very rare to capture on video one of these violent shootings from begging to end in this case it has been achieved.
The sheer magnitude of the violence plaguing Chicago is having adverse effects on the residents of high crime neighborhoods like Homan Square, the violence also affects Chicago’s first responders, and police. 16 of the 800 crosses that marched down Michigan avenue in late December 2016, belong to the little enclave called Homan square.
Maggio News/Vic Maggio
This VIDEO is the First in a Series about the Violent Shootings on the Bloody Streets of Chicago. Maggio News will be stepping up coverage of this tragedy as it unfolds throughout the spring, summer and fall of 2017.
This video is not graphic it is a test video, future videos will be Shockingly! graphic and informative from a street level perspective.
This is being done so people can see the true carnage not being shown to them and maybe then change will come to the neighborhoods of Chicago? I know no other way to accomplish this monumental task but to show the tragedy in a truly graphic nature. Stay tuned.

Bloody Chicago Mini Video Trailer, this is a dark based video that is best to watch in the dark with headphones on. Take a ride with Maggio News while he roams the gang infested neighborhoods of Chicago in search of what is responsible for the unprecedented violence taking place on the streets of Chicago. Maggio News has been documenting the Bloodshed since 2013 but has recently stepped up coverage for 2016. I was invited by my conscience to witness and document the unprecedented violence on the Bloody Streets of Chicago.
According to YouTube the song Eminence Front by the WHO, can be used in this video, the copyright holder will place an ad in this video.
This audio recording was recorded from 12:00 am till 12:05 am New Year’s eve 2017 in the Back of the Yards Neighborhoods off 43rd street. Vic Maggio stood in the middle of the street and recorder this war zone sounding New Year’s Eve celebratory gunfire video.
The video was cut down to three minutes. Can you tell the difference between fireworks and gunfire? I can because I hear the gunfire all year around in these high crime neighborhoods ¾ off what you are hearing is gunfire in gun free Chicago.
Maggio News started covering the shootings part time in 2013 through 2015 but in March of 2016 Maggio News set out full time to document the violence plaguing the neighborhoods of Chicago for an upcoming documentary called Bloody Chicago the Fall of the Welfare State.
Covering the carnage on the Bloody Streets of Chicago is no easy task. To acquire the intimate footage of victims shot, is a very tall order, because Chicago has 3 million residents and has a 234-mile square land mass to cover.
The only way to capture the true horror of the shootings is to stay in these neighborhoods for long periods of time and lay in wait, for that one shots fired call to crackle over the radio. This leaves 6 minutes to close in on the area, it takes about 3 minutes for the ambulance to arrive and 2 or 3 minutes to stabilize the gunshot victim and load that person on an ambulance. After 6 minutes expires all that is left is crime scene tape and police officers investigating the shooting.
To close in on a shooting in progress leaves the reporter no choice but to drive at high rates of speed dodging red light cameras and speed trap radar that are stationed all over the city. When arriving at a hot shooting scene one never knows what to expect. It could be one shot or five shot, in Chicago everyone is now a potential target. Shooters running from shooting scenes have crossed the path of my vehicle on multiple occasions this has happened when arriving on the scene before the police, this is very dangerous work.
Some parts of Chicago truly are WAR zones. While covering these shootings, there have been times when the gangs shoot at each other on the next block while 20 cops are on the present crime scene. They don’t seem to care that there are multiple cops a couple hundred feet away. Sometimes police officers try to stop reporters, like me from filming, gang members and residents also don’t want reporters filming these tragedies, all this resistance makes the job all that more difficult.
This year alone Maggio News has covered hundreds of shootings and violent incidents all over the city. I was almost caught in gang crossfire three times this year while roaming through these high crime neighborhoods. My greatest concern is the indiscriminate bullet that roars through these neighbors every day, it is that bullet that you can’t defend yourself against, you don’t know it till you hear the whistle and by then it’s too late you have been shot.
The hardest thing there is to this job is witnessing the victims in their most vulnerable state screaming out for help and worst case dying before your very eyes. As of December 28th, 4330 people have been shot and 705 have been shot and killed leaving the total number of homicides at 785. This is unprecedented violence is unacceptable on every level Maggio News signing Off.

This is Victor Maggio of Maggio News reporting on the 700 murders on the bloody streets of Chicago. This is a short video compilation of shootings, victims and crime scenes across the Chicago-land area throughout the spring, summer, fall, of 2016.
Today the city of Chicago reached a grizzly milestone, the 700th homicide has been realized by the residents and political leadership of the city of Chicago. As of November, 17th 2016, 700 people have been murdered of which 629 people have been shot and killed and 3293 have been shot and wounded on the bloody streets of Chicago.
What is causing this unprecedented rise in violence here in Chicago? For more than three decades Chicago has been deemed a sanctuary city. The result of this designation by Chicago’s political leaders over the years, has left an open invitation to the cartels to come and set up drug cells all over the city. The Sinaloa cartel supply’s 80 % of all the drugs that are sold on the streets of Chicago, the massive stranglehold by the cartels has left Chicago renamed, Sinaloa CITY. Illegal drugs are the root cause of the violence plaguing Chicago for the past thirty years. Along with the drugs comes the guns, the guns are used as a tool to enforce and expand the gangs drug trade. This illegal policy supported by the politicians her in Chicago is adding fuel to the fire which has left the residents of Chicago vulnerable to all kinds of violent horrors.
On the bloody streets of Chicago, a person is shot every 2 Hours and a person is murdered every 11 hours. The most violent month in Chicago is June. In 2016, 623 males and 59 females were shot and killed and 2892 males and 345 females were wounded in shootings across the city. The ages of the victims killed and wounded start at ages 1 to 12 years-old, 9 little kids have been shot and killed and 23 were wounded. Ages 13 to 19-year-olds, 97 killed and 652 have been wounded. The most frequent age group being shot and killed at an alarming rate, are people ages 20 to 34 years-old, 321 have been killed and 1618 wounded.
The ethnic breakdown of the people shot in Chicago are 77.8% black, 16.9% Hispanic, and 5.3% are white or another race. The success rate of apprehending and charging murders in Chicago is a mere 20%, that means 80% of the shooters are still at large. Chicago leads the nation in multiple victim shootings. In 1 incident, a group of 7 people were shot, in 9 separate incidents, 5 people were shot, in 19 other incidents, 4 people were shot, in 85 incidents, 3 people were shot, and finally 394 pairs of people were shot in Chicago.
There have been an unprecedented 45 expressway shootings in Chicago so far this year. In 2015 the shootings have cost the city of Chicago, an estimated 2.5 billion dollars a year in ER and Hospital expenses. 700 people have lost their lives on the bloody streets of Chicago and the politicians don’t seem to even care.
An interview of myself! by Vic Maggio Did you ever think covering the shootings on the violent streets of Chicago would damage your soul? “No, but it has!” Did you ever think the horror would follow you home? “No, but it does”. “Did you ever think it would invade your sleep and infiltrate your dreams?…
One of the most infamous guns in history was introduced to the city of Chicago by scare face Al Capone in the late 1920’s. Throughout the great depression of the 1930’s the Thompson submachine gun was used by gangsters to instill fear and to control the streets of Chicago. The gun was also known informally as the Tommy Gun, The Chicago Typewriter, or The Chopper. The Capone era also introduced the infamous drive by shooting and drive by bombing to Chicago. The Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre happened on February 14th 1929, After the killing of seven men in a north side garage the mob put a stop to the use of tommy guns and also stopped public drive by killings in Chicago. The negative attention the mob received after the killing of seven men in that garage on north Clark street, would forever change how the mob would kill in Chicago.
In 1965 everything changed in Chicago with the growth of minority gangs, these gangs were born from within the disaster that was the Chicago public housing projects. There are two gangs that introduced guns on a mass scale to the minority communities of Chicago, are the black stone rangers and the disciples, these were the first black minority mega gangs that enforced with guns. These two gangs can be directly accredited with the future murder rates that would ultimately devastate the minority communities in Chicago over the next 50 years.
Chicago Illinois has adopted the strictest gun laws in the country, but yet Chicago has the highest amount of gun related murders in the country. and the question that now needs to be answered is, how are the 125 street gangs of Chicago getting this vast array of weaponry on to the streets of Chicago?
Chicago gangs have multiple avenues at their disposal where they can acquire guns and ammo by legal or criminal means. The first and least effective of the 4 ways guns find their way on to the streets of Chicago, is the smash and grab tactic.
Gangs target local gun stores in the dead of night by driving their vehicle through doors and or windows at these establishments to grab guns or the more sought after item ammunition.
This tactic has been taking place not only in the suburbs of Chicago but in multiple states across the country.
One of the most effective ways guns get to the streets of Chicago is by straw purchases. Gangs target young guys in the neighborhood that have a clean background they then put them through the process to get a FOID card. Once the member or associate receives the card he is then tapped by fellow gang members to make buying trips to Indiana.
One gang member was quoted as saying “All they need is one person who got a gun card in the ‘hood and everybody’s got (a gun).”
in 2007 one college student was arrested after he bought and transferred 43 guns to a guy with ties to the Gangster Disciples – many of the guns were purchased at gun shows in Indiana and sold in the neighborhoods of Chicago for a good profit.
A study in 2015 by the University of Chicago Crime Lab found 60 percent of the newer guns recovered from gang members had come from out of state — half of those from Indiana.
Local Gangs have been robbing rail yards in Chicago for decades. There have been multiple rip offs of guns over the past 4 decades from trains staged in Chicago bound for other destinations around the country. There have been two separate high profile robberies recently in Chicago. The most recent theft by gang members netted 111 guns from a rail car sitting at South Chicago Avenue in April. The stolen guns where .44 caliber revolvers and .22 caliber pistol grip long rifles.
In May 2014 the second incident occurred where 13 guns were stolen from a container sitting on a train at the Norfolk Southern Railway on 79th and western while cars sat in the rail yard overnight. They stole 13 Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport rifles which are military grade weapons that are equipped with 30-around magazines, these guns were being shipped to a licensed federal firearms dealer in Minnesota.
According to the ATF these robberies happen quite frequently in Chicago.
These type of military style weapons have been used in several high-profile crimes in Chicago recently, like the mass shooting at Cornell Square Park on Sept 19th 2013. A gunman fired a barrage of shots from a Military style weapon at a group of people playing basketball in the Back of the Yards neighborhood in Chicago. 13 people were shot including a 3-year-old boy that was shot in the face as he played in the park with his mother. The use of Military grade weapons in the wrong hands can kill and maim mass amounts of people with a 30 round clip in a single incident. This mass shooting is believed to be part of an ongoing gang war in the Back of the Yards Neighborhood.
Thefts of guns from legal gun owners are on the rise in Chicago. I would like to tell the story about A .40-caliber Glock handgun that was stolen from a South Shore apartment in 2015. In 2016 Chicago police recovered the gun in a drug raid on a gang members house. Ballistics on the gun would end up showing the trail of misery left across the city by gun.
This one gun would fire 42 bullets, leaving shell casings scattered on walkways, porches and side streets all over the city. This gun was passed around to multiple street gang members over the course of a one-year period, the gun was used in at least five separate shootings that left two dead and five others wounded, this one gun in the wrong hands did all this, just one gun did all this.
The sad part of all this is these very young kids don’t seem to have any concept of the damage it is they are doing.
Over the past 50 years over 35.000 people have been murdered since the introduction of the gun by the gangs of Chicago. The overall legacy that has been left, by Chicago gangsters like Al Capone, Jeff Fort, Larry Hoover Fluky Stokes, will be they are all partially responsible for the deaths of thousands of Chicago’s youngest generation of minority kids in the history of Chicago.

This video has been dedicated in my granddaughter’s name, Bailee Ann Zaker who passed away October 2nd 2013. This video dedication is in remembrance to all the children that have been shot on the Bloody Streets of Chicago. Bailee is the motivating force behind this dangerous monumental task Maggio News has started and aims to finish.
The Summer of 2016 has been a very violent one in Chicago. Maggio News has criss crossed the city covering shootings in almost every Neighborhood in Chicago. The public keeps asking the same question over and over why is this mass violence happening in Chicago, and how do we stop it.
There are multiple contributing factors to the formula that makes up the violent culture that is spreading throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
Maggio News will cover the full spectrum of issues in a much larger project in the near future. As of Friday October 2nd 2016 there have been 574 people killed and 3325 people wounded in shootings. Chicago is well on its way to surpass 600 murders this year these statistics are basically war zone stats. Maggio News has taken on the monumental task of attempting to make the problems plaguing Chicago understandable, if we don’t understand the root causes of these problems they can never be FIXED.
