One person was killed and six other people were injured after a four-car crash early Saturday morning in the Canaryville neighborhood on the South Side. At 1:12 a.m., a Mitsubishi was traveling east in the 700 block of West 47th Street when it drove through a red light, swerved into oncoming traffic and struck a Nissan Altima, causing a chain-reaction crash.
The Altima then hit a Nissan Armada, which in turn struck a Honda Civic. The driver of the Mitsubishi, whose age was not immediately available, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Six other people were taken to area hospitals.
The driver of the Altima and the three passengers that were inside the car were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. The condition of the driver, a 26-year-old woman, was stabilized, and the passengers were all listed in fair condition.
