Nine people, including five teens, were wounded in separate attacks from Thursday to early Friday on the city’s West and South sides.
Two people were critically injured just before 3:40 a.m. Friday in the Englewood neighborhood near a memorial for a 16-year-old boy who was fatally shot earlier this month on the same block, police said. A 40-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man were on the sidewalk in the 5500 block of South Shields Avenue when a van pulled up and someone inside opened fire. The woman was shot in the legs and abdomen, and the man was shot in the chest, arm and hand. Both were in critical condition at Stroger Hospital. Officers taped off the north end of the block, which included candles and balloons that had been left in memory of the slain teen.
In Chicago Lawn, a 21-year-old man was wounded in a shooting about 10:55 p.m. in the 2400 block of West 63rd Street, police said. He was standing on the corner when a vehicle pulled up and two men got out and opened fire. His condition was stabilized at Mount Sinai Hospital.
A 26-year-old man was shot in the arm just before 8:50 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Lockwood Avenue in the North Austin neighborhood, police said. Officers who responded to a call of a person shot found the man. He was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
A 16-year-old boy was shot in the hand about 8:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of East 69th Place in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, police said. He was listed in good condition at Jackson Park Hospital.
A 19-year-old man was wounded in the right wrist when someone shot him in the 3300 block of West Gladys Avenue in the Fifth City neighborhood about
7:20 p.m. Thursday. The man got himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in good condition, according to police.
Earlier, a 17-year-old boy was shot about 6:05 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in the West Woodlawn neighborhood. Assailants were walking and began firing shots at the boy, hitting him in the left leg and right foot, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
A double shooting wounded a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man in the Austin neighborhood, police said. The shooting happened about 3:10 p.m. in the 1100 block of North Lockwood Avenue in Austin, police said. The two were walking on Lockwood when a dark-colored car pulled up and someone began firing shots, hitting the boy in the right thigh and the man in the lower right leg, police said.
They were taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, police said.
