Bloody Chicago 5 dead, 35 wounded in Weekend Shootings

The most recent deadly shooting happened Sunday night in the South Shore neighborhood.

About 7:10 p.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 7200 block of South Phillips Avenue and found a 25-year-old man unresponsive on the ground, police said. He was shot on the right side of his body and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Earlier on Sunday, a man was shot to death outside a gas station in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side. Officers responding to a call of a person shot in the 4800 block of West Madison at 1:59 a.m. found the man, thought to be in his 20s, with multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen and chest. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At 3:21 a.m. Saturday morning, a man was shot to death in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. Officers responding to reports of shots fired found the 31-year-old lying in an alley in the 100 block of South California, authorities said. He had been shot in the head, left arm and left leg. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Another 31-year-old man was shot to death a little more than an hour earlier in the West Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side. He was driving in the 6800 block of South Springfield about 2 a.m. when someone outside fired shots, hitting him in the chest, police said. He was driven to Holy Cross Hospital and was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At 3:40 a.m. Monday, a 26-year-old man was shot dead in Brighton Park. Police responded to the 2500 block of West 47th Street and found him on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to the left shoulder and right leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.
Around 5:40 p.m., a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were shot in the 6300 block of South King Drive in the Greater Grand Crossing area, police said. The boy was shot in the neck and taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center, while the man was shot in the left forearm and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.
