7 Wounded in Shootings on Thursday in Chicago

(Chicago Tribune) Two men in their 70s were among seven people wounded in shootings across Chicago from Thursday morning to early Friday, authorities said.

A 72-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were inside a vehicle when someone shot them around 11 a.m. Thursday in the 4100 block of West Grenshaw Street in the West Side’s Lawndale neighborhood, police said.

The 72-year-old was shot in the back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stabilized. The 37-year-old was listed in critical condition at Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the neck, police said.

About 6:30 a.m. on the Southwest Side, a 73-year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery in the 6100 block of South Kenneth Avenue in West Lawn, police said.

The man was walking along a sidewalk when two males jumped out of a black SUV and announced a robbery. When he refused to hand over his wallet, he was shot in the abdomen, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition had stabilized.

• A 20-year-old man was seriously wounded in a Northwest Side shooting about 2:50 a.m. Friday in the 5200 block of West Schubert Avenue in the Cragin neighborhood. He was shot in the right arm and the bullet traveled into his chest, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Police were still sorting out what happened. The victim indicated someone shot him, but a witness later told investigators the man shot himself. A gun was not found at the scene. What appeared to be blood could be seen in the doorway of a large apartment building. As officers investigated, about eight gunshots could be heard just west of the crime scene.

• About 12:05 a.m. on the West Side, a 26-year-old man was shot in the buttocks in a drive-by shooting in the Lawndale neighborhood, police said. He was standing in the 2200 block of South Kildare Avenue when someone in a red sedan opened fire. He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

• On the South Side, a 19-year-old man was shot in the right leg about 9:10 p.m. Thursday in the 8300 block of South Drexel Avenue in the East Chatham neighborhood, police said. He was walking in an alley when someone shot at him. He went to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

• About 2:55 p.m. on a South Side basketball court in the 7000 block of South Dante Avenue in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, someone shot a 30-year-old man in the leg, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

Police reported no arrests in any of the shootings.
