Three children, two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old, were wounded in a shooting in the Austin neighborhood Sunday evening, more than 12 hours after a 38-year-old man was found fatally shot on the Far South Side, police said.
The 13-year-olds, a boy and a girl, and a 14-year-old girl were shot about 7:10 p.m. in the 4900 block of West Rice Street, according to a police media notification, correcting earlier information that the shooting took place a block farther east. Police also earlier said the 14-year-old girl was 26.
The younger girl suffered a gunshot wound to the upper leg, while the boy suffered a gunshot wound to the left ankle and the 14-year-old was shot in the upper right thigh.
All three were taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized.
The three told investigators that they were standing on the sidewalk when they heard gunshots and felt pain from gunshot wounds, police said.
Police did not immediately release information the circumstances of the shooting.
Earlier, about 6:05 a.m., a man visiting from Iowa, where he moved to escape neighborhood violence, was shot to death in the Golden Gate neighborhood.
