2 Shot Dead in Addison Car Shooting

A man and a 17-year-old boy were shot to death in a car while driving in northwest suburban Addison, police said.

Police were called to near Denise Court and Elizabeth Drive because 911 callers reported shots fired and a traffic crash and found a car with two people in it that had hit a tree, according to a release from Addison police.

The two, a 20-year-old man and the teen, had gunshot wounds and were taken to hospitals, where they were pronounced dead, according to a later release. The DuPage County coroner’s office was notified of one person who died at Adventist GlenOaks Hospital, but no further details were immediately available.

The boy was identified as Kevin Bustos-Garcia, of the first block of East Meadow Drive in DeKalb County, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Police said Bustos-Garcia lived in Addison, however. He was pronounced dead at 2:17 p.m. at Alexian Brothers Medical Center.

“This appears to be a targeted attack, and we do not believe the community to be in any danger at this time,” police said in a release.

Investigators were “following up several leads,” according to the release.

Investigators had interviewed several witnesses and were checking security footage from the area by late afternoon, according to police.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Addison police investigators at 630-543-3080.
