(Chicago Tribune) Two men have been killed and seven other people, including a 15-year-old boy, have been wounded since just before dawn Thursday in Chicago, police said.
In the first fatal shooting, a man, identified as Miguel Islas, 28, was shot and killed while arguing with another man around 5:30 a.m. in the 4900 block of South Cicero Avenue, about a mile north of Midway Airport in the Vittum Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said.
The gunman ran off after firing six or seven times at the man and striking him in the chest, police said.
Islas was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:51 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 6100 block of South Washtenaw Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m., two men were shot multiple times in the 5300 block of Race Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said.
Uriah Hughes, 32, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. The second victim, a 26-year-old man, was taken in critical condition at Stroger, police said.
The two men were getting into a vehicle when they heard shots and felt pain, police said.
Also in the South Austin neighborhood, a 15-year-old boy was shot just about 4:50 p.m. in the 5100 block of West Harrison Street on the West Side, police said.
The boy was walking down the street when someone approached and shot him in the right leg and knee. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
In other shootings:
• About 7:45 p.m. on the South Side, a 28-year-old man was shot in the 1300 block of West 51st Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, police said. The man was taken to an area hospital, where his condition was stabilized. The man was shot during a robbery, police said. No one was in custody.
• About 6:15 p.m. on the West Side, an 18-year-old man was shot in the abdomen while walking in the 700 block of North Homan Avenue. A 34-year-old woman who was driving suffered wounds to the body. She drove herself to Norwegian American Hospital. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital.
• About 2:15 p.m. on the South Side, a 38-year-old man was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood in the 5400 block of South Damen Avenue, police said. The man suffered a wound to the left leg and was taken to an area hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
• About 12:30 p.m. on the South Side, a 24-year-old man walked into St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left thigh, police said. He told police he was shot in the 6700 block of South Halsted Street. Police said the shooting may have happened in an alley.
