(Fox) A 15-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of an 18-year-old woman who was among five people shot in February inside a convenience store in Avalon Park on the South Side.
The boy, who has not been named because he is a minor, is facing one count of first-degree murder and four counts of attempted first-degree murder, police said.
Jaya Beemon, 18, was killed in the Feb. 25 shooting in the 7900 block of South Hamilton Avenue. Two men, ages 19 and 63, an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl were also shot.
Police said at the time that they believed the shooters were aiming at a young man inside the convenience store. Surveillance video released after the shooting shows three people walk up to the store, open the door and unleash a flurry of gunfire before running away.
The 15-year-old boy was identified as one of the alleged gunmen and taken into custody about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of South Hamilton Avenue, police said. No other arrests had been made as of Wednesday evening.
He is due to appear in court Thursday
