(Maggio News Video) This shooting took place at Orland square mall in the south Chicago suburb on Monday January 21st in a crowded mall.
I arrived on the scene about 10 minutes after the shooting happened and rolled on to mall property behind the SWAT team.
One man was shot dead and another was injured. The shooting happened about 6:45 p.m. at a lower level food court at the mall.
A 20-year-old black male was killed he shot in the chest and staggered from the food court area to a nearby H&M clothing store, where he collapsed.
Cops Fireman and the Swat team were there within minutes, and the victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and pronounced dead.
A bystander who was at the mall suffered a graze wound to the leg and was treated at a hospital in La Grange.
He said the bystander is a black man around 18 or 19 years of age.
The family of the slain man has yet to be notified so police are not releasing his identity yet.
The suspected shooter is a 6-foot-1 black man, around 20 years old, wearing black clothing and blue jeans, police said. He fled the area on foot.
Cops said the suspect is still at large. He fled the area heading east.
Cops believe the shooting is an isolated incident. Cops claim the individuals knew each other.
As the wounded were being taken out to waiting ambulances a man named Ricky was in the mall at the time of the shooting and gave me footage of two men shot in the mall being treated by paramedics.
The mall closed after the shooting and Around 8:00pm cops started letting people leave that were under lock down in the mall.
For about an hour Swat Teams swept the mall looking for the shooter, but cameras in the mall later showed the shooter left the mall property.
Orland Park police are searching for the suspected shooter on foot and by drone Monday night. The ATF is also assisting in the search.
Witnesses said seven gunshots were heard echoing through the mall Cops found multiple shell casings inside the mall.
This was a massive response by State, County, and multiple Police Departments from the surrounding areas.
People are shocked by this shooting one lady said its so far from Chicago we don’t expect this type of thing to happen here. As I have been saying for almost five years the more guns in the hands of criminals and reactionary driven society, and we have many of them, this means one thing MORE shootings anywhere at any time.
I heard people as they were leaving the mall, thanking cops for helping them. Nice job guys. Thanks officers.
And the shooter is still at large but not for long because cops know who this guy is.
