Pregnant Woman, Man, Shot, Killed in the Grand Crossing Neighborhood

A shooting in Grand Crossing killed a pregnant woman and a man Wednesday night, police said.

At 8:15 p.m., officers responding to a call of shots fired found the victims in the 7600 block of South Champlain Avenue, police said.

The woman, who was in her 20s, was found on the sidewalk and had been shot in her abdomen and the side of her body, police said. The man was found in the driver’s seat of a parked car and had been shot in the left side of his neck.

The two were taken to Stroger Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said. A doctor at Stroger Hospital told police the woman was pregnant, though it was not known for how long she had been pregnant.

The man was a documented gang member, a police source said.

No one was in custody.
