A 37-year-old Oswego man was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside a vehicle in the parking lot of Scullent Middle School in Naperville Friday night.
Officers received a call at 7:19 p.m. of an unresponsive man in a vehicle in the parking lot of the school at 2815 Mistflower Lane, police said.
The man was taken to Edward Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation continues, but the shooting does not appear to be a random act nor an apparent threat to the public, police said.
ABC 7 Chicago reported that all the children inside the school for late Polish classes were accounted for and all OK. The circumstances of the shooting were not known late Friday night.
Scullen Middle School Principal Jim Seput released a statement during the evening saying that the ongoing investigation did not appear to involve the school itself, and police confirmed that.
“There were two non-school organizations that rented building space for activities this evening,” Seput wrote.
“In addition, there was an after-school club that was concluding its activity.”
Police were in the school’s parking lot flooding it with lights, treating it as an active crime scene.
ABC 7 said frustrated parents were waiting nearby as children were slowly being released.
Naperville police are asking anyone who may have information about the crime to contact them at (630) 420-6666 or Naperville Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006.
