Nine people were killed and at least 42 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago between Friday evening and Monday morning.
The latest killing happened Sunday afternoon in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. An 18-year-old man was shot in the torso at 4:23 p.m. in the 4900 block of West West End, according to Chicago Police. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5 p.m. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not yet released his name.
About 12:30 a.m. Sunday, a man was fatally shot in the West Elsdon neighborhood on the Southwest Side. Luis Villa, 36, was sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked car in the 5600 block of South Kolmar when a silver vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside opened fire, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. Villa, who lived on the same block as the shooting, was shot in the side of his torso and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:42 a.m.
Less than an hour earlier, a man was fatally shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. At 11:45 p.m., the 22-year-old was sitting in a parked car in the 700 block of West 45th Street when someone in a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and fired shots, hitting him in the chest, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.
About 10 p.m. Saturday, a man was gunned down in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the South Side. Adama Moye, 22, was sitting in a car parked in the first block of West 98th Street when a dark vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside fired shots, authorities said. Moye, of the 4900 block of South Dorchester, was shot in the chest and taken to Christ Medical Center, where he died at 10:41 p.m.
Earlier Saturday afternoon, a man was shot to death in the Far South Side Washington Heights neighborhood. Elijah Terry, 23, was standing outside at 3:39 p.m. in the 10100 block of South Halsted when another male walked up, pulled out a gun and opened fire, authorities said. Terry was shot in the face and taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 p.m. He lived in the 1100 block of West 107th Place.
About 1:45 a.m., officers responding to a call of a person shot at a gas station in the 8200 block of South State in the South Side Chatham neighborhood found a man in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said. The man, thought to be in his 20s, was dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.
Forty-five minutes earlier, 54-year-old Cynthia D. Richardson was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the neck on the lawn of a West Englewood neighborhood home in the 5900 block of South Winchester, authorities said. Richardson, who lived in the 2100 block of West 63rd Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:30 a.m.
Late Friday, an 18-year-old man was slain about eight blocks away from the other Chatham neighborhood killing. Deon Virges ran into a store about 11 p.m. in the first block of East 75th Street, collapsed and died of a gunshot wound to neck, authorities said. Virges, who lived in the 7500 block of South Calumet, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:11 p.m.
The weekend’s first homicide happened about 5 p.m. Friday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side. Seneka Harrison was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest in an alley in the 4700 block of West Congress, authorities said. Harrison, of the 1800 block of South Homan, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:41 p.m. Continue Reading
